DDR5 laptop RAM (SO-DIMM) prices
DDR5 SO-DIMM memory (RAM) is the compact stick that gives your laptop or tiny PC the working space it needs to run programs, keep tabs open and switch between tasks without slowing down. On PartsPrices we compare current prices for every laptop DDR5 size — 16 GB, 32 GB, 48 GB, 64 GB and 96 GB — and show which of the 25 devices in our catalog each module fits. Before buying, check three things: the form factor is SO-DIMM, the interface is DDR5 rather than DDR4 or DDR3, and the module is listed as compatible with your device.

Before you buy
- **Match the form factor and the generation.** Laptop and small-form-factor systems use SO-DIMM modules, which are shorter than desktop DIMMs. Generation matters just as much: a DDR5 SO-DIMM has a different pin layout and notch position from DDR4 or DDR3, so modules from different generations will not fit the slot. Look for DDR5 SO-DIMM (sometimes written as DDR5 SODIMM) on the spec sheet before anything else.
- **Check your device's supported capacity and upgrade options.** Some systems cap the total memory they accept or have only one slot, and some have memory soldered to the board with no slot at all. Our compatibility list for this part covers 25 devices, including the Dell XPS 15 9520, Dell Latitude 5440 and 5450, Dell OptiPlex 7000 Micro, Dell G15 5520, Framework Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen 7040), Framework Laptop 16, Lenovo ThinkCentre M70q Gen 6 Tiny (Intel), Lenovo ThinkCentre M75q Gen 5 Tiny (AMD) and Lenovo ThinkStation P3 Tiny Gen 2 (Intel) Workstation. If your model is listed as a fit, the form factor and interface are already checked for you.
- **Plan your capacity for the slots you have.** If a system has two slots, filling both with matching modules of the same size and speed is usually the simplest setup. If it has one slot, the module you install is the whole upgrade, so it is worth going straight to the size you expect to need rather than buying twice. The sizes we compare here run from 16 GB to 96 GB.
Questions
Will DDR5 SO-DIMM RAM fit my laptop or tiny desktop?
Only if the device has a DDR5 SO-DIMM slot. Memory from different generations is not interchangeable: DDR5, DDR4 and DDR3 SO-DIMMs differ in pin count and notch position, so a module from the wrong generation will not seat in the slot. Check that your model takes DDR5 SO-DIMM memory, and use the compatibility list on this page to confirm fit for the 25 devices in our catalog. If your device's memory is soldered and there is no free slot, this part will not help you upgrade.
What speed of DDR5 laptop memory should I buy?
Memory runs at the speed your system supports. A module rated higher than your device's supported speed will typically run at the slower supported rate, so paying for the fastest rating does not always buy you a faster laptop. If you are adding a second module to an existing one, modules with different speed ratings commonly run together at the lower rating. Match the speed of what is already installed when you can, or buy a matched pair if you are replacing everything.
Is it worth buying used or refurbished memory?
Memory has no moving parts and can work reliably for a long time, so used or refurbished modules can be a sensible way to save. The trade-offs are a shorter or no warranty and less certainty about how the module was handled. If you buy used, check the seller's return policy, confirm the module is genuine DDR5 SO-DIMM with the capacity and speed listed, and test it in your system soon after it arrives so you can return it if anything is off.
How much memory do I actually need?
It depends on what you run at the same time. For everyday browsing, office work and streaming, 16 GB is a common starting point. Moving up to 32 GB helps if you keep many tabs and apps open, work with large documents or do photo and video editing. The larger 48 GB, 64 GB and 96 GB sizes suit heavier loads such as virtual machines, large datasets and long video timelines. Add headroom if your device has a soldered module or only one slot, since upgrading later may not be possible.
