Framework Laptop 16 upgrades
RAM and the M.2 SSDs are user-upgradable, and no soldered memory is mentioned. There are no 2.5" or 3.5" bays. DIY Edition lets you bring your own RAM and SSD, while pre-built configurations have fixed combinations.

Documented maximum is 2x32GB (64GB) at launch. The current Ryzen AI 300 page lists up to 96GB, which implies 48GB modules, but this is documented only for the newer model. Faster modules run at 5600 MT/s. ECC support is not stated in the sources. The first boot after a RAM change is slow while memory training runs.

Short 2230 drives only. The current spec page says this slot is PCIe 4.0 x2, so x4 drives run slower. 2230 drives are less common and capped at 2TB. The slot is flat, not angled.

These are USB-based Framework Expansion Card slots, not native card slots. Storage options are the 250GB and 1TB cards and a MicroSD card reader. The cards use USB 3.2 Gen 2 with about 1000 MB/s reads. Writes are 375 MB/s on the 250GB card and 1000 MB/s on the 1TB card.
