ASUSTeK ROG Strix G16 (2024) G614 upgrades
Released 2024 · end of sale
The CPU is BGA-soldered (Intel Core HX: i9-14900HX on 2024 G614JIR/JVR/JUR/JZR units; i9-13980HX / i7-13650HX on 2023 G614JI/JV/JU units) — there is no CPU socket and no CPU upgrade path, so no CPU slot is listed. Same chassis and slot guidance applies across 2023 and 2024 G614 variants. Upgrading via the bottom panel generally does not void the warranty, but keep original parts and check regional ASUS terms; use the official service manual for teardown. DDR5 kits must be SO-DIMM, not desktop DIMM.

- 2× DDR5 SO-DIMM slots (dual-channel): 2 × DDR5 SO-DIMM · up to 64 GB total · 5600 MT/s
- 2× M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe slots: 2 × SSD M.2 2280 (NVMe) · up to 2.048 TB
2× DDR5 SO-DIMM slots (dual-channel) 2 × DDR5 SO-DIMM · up to 64 GB total · 5600 MT/s
No soldered RAM; both SO-DIMM sockets are free. Rated DDR5-5600, but ASUS warns some units run only 5200 MT/s depending on CPU, and modules downclock to the CPU's supported speed. ASUS spec pages conflict: most say 32 GB max, some regional pages and Kingston validate 64 GB (2× 32 GB). Buy matched pairs for dual-channel (Kingston says install in pairs); SO-DIMM 262-pin, non-ECC unbuffered only.

2× M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe slots 2 × SSD M.2 2280 (NVMe) · up to 2.048 TB
PCIe Gen4 x4 (up to ~7000 MB/s per ASUS). CRITICAL: only single-sided (NAND on one side) SSDs fit — surface-mounted components near the slot block double-sided drives. No 2.5" bay, no SATA, no card reader. ASUS validates/factory-configures up to 2 TB per slot; larger single-sided drives (e.g. 4 TB) generally work but are unvalidated. min_pcie_gen is null since ASUS does not state a minimum drive generation.
