MSI B650M Gaming Plus WIFI upgrades

This is the MSI B650M GAMING PLUS WIFI — do not confuse it with the GIGABYTE board of the same name (different storage layout, 22110 support, memory QVL and rear I/O). MSI's own spec sheet (256 GB max) overrides conflicting third-party manual mirrors listing 128 GB. Expansion: 1× PCIe 4.0 x16 (x8/x4 with some APUs) and 2× PCIe 3.0 x1. RAM speed is CPU/IMC dependent; ECC is not supported by the board even where CPUs allow it.

7200+ MT/s is best-case (1 DIMM/channel, single-rank, Ryzen 7000/9000 with good IMC); with 4 DIMMs or dual-rank sticks expect 5400–6000. 256 GB needs 4×64 GB sticks. Non-ECC unbuffered UDIMM only; populate A2+B2 first for two sticks. AMD EXPO profiles (XMP kits usually work).

Both M.2 slots are PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe (Key M) from CPU lanes, 2260/2280 only — no 2230 or 22110, no SATA M.2. M2_2 drops to PCIe 4.0 x2 with Ryzen 8500/8300 APUs. 4× SATA ports support RAID 0/1/10 (NVMe RAID 0/1); 2.5"/3.5" bay fit and thickness limits depend on your case.

Socketed AM5 (LGA1718), user-replaceable. Ryzen 9000 may need a BIOS update on older stock. MSI publishes no hard TDP limit (platform handles 170 W class parts, verify on MSI's CPU support list); BIOS offers 65 W ECO/Config TDP and PBO thermal profiles. Ryzen 8000-series APUs cut the PCIe x16 slot to x8 or x4 and M2_2 to x2.
