Lenovo ThinkPad P15 Gen 2 upgrades
Released 2021 · support ended
No CPU slot: the 11th Gen Intel Tiger Lake-H CPU (Core i5/i7/i9, Xeon W-11855M/W-11955M on WM590) is soldered (BGA) and not upgradeable — pick the CPU tier at purchase. RAM and two of the M.2 slots need bottom-cover removal; RAM slots c/d require keyboard removal, so follow the hardware maintenance manual.

4 × DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM, up to 128 GB 4 × DDR4 SO-DIMM · up to 128 GB total · 3200 MT/s
DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM (1.2 V) only — not DDR5, not desktop DIMMs. Fill the two bottom-cover slots (a, b) first; the other two sit under the keyboard. 128 GB = 4 × 32 GB is Lenovo's tested ceiling. ECC works only on Xeon W-11855M/W-11955M configs with ECC SO-DIMMs; Core i5/i7/i9 models need non-ECC. Unbuffered only, matched modules recommended.

3 × M.2 2280 NVMe (1× Gen4, 2× Gen3) 3 × SSD M.2 2280 (NVMe) · up to 2 TB
M.2 2280-S3 (max 2.3 mm thick), PCIe NVMe x4 only — no SATA support and no 2.5" bay. One slot is PCIe 4.0 x4, two are PCIe 3.0 x4 (marketing claims Gen4 for all; trust PSREF). Max 2 TB per drive / 6 TB total as tested by Lenovo. RAID 0/1 works only on the two Gen3 slots, and Opal 2.0 SED is unavailable in RAID mode.
