HP Inc. HP EliteBook 840 G9 Notebook PC upgrades
Released 2022 · on sale
CPU is soldered (BGA) 12th Gen Intel Alder Lake (U-series 15W and P-series 28W options, e.g. i5-1245U to i7-1280P) - no CPU socket or upgrade path; pick the right CPU at purchase. No ECC/registered memory support. Memory card slot and WWAN M.2 slot not documented for this model. An eMMC row in the HP service guide appears to be a shared-table error and does not apply to any known 840 G9 config. Do not confuse with the EliteOne 840 G9 all-in-one desktop (different product with DIMM slots).

2x SO-DIMM DDR5-4800 up to 64 GB 2 × DDR5 SO-DIMM · up to 64 GB total · 4800 MT/s
2x 262-pin DDR5-4800 SO-DIMM, dual-channel, no soldered memory so both slots are usable. Non-ECC unbuffered only; asymmetric mixes allowed but run at the slower module's speed. HP warns some third-party DDR5 modules are non-standard and recommends HP-branded RAM.

1x M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe Gen4 x4 SSD M.2 2280 (NVMe) · up to 2.048 TB
Single M.2 2280 M-key slot, Gen4 x4 (Gen3 drives work at Gen3 speed). HP documents/validates up to 2 TB; 4 TB drives are physically compatible but unvalidated. No second bay or 2.5-inch drive, so capacity upgrades mean replacing/cloning the existing drive. Some factory 'Value' SSDs are only Gen3.
