CPU is soldered (BGA) — Ryzen 200 / Ryzen 7 255H and 'Next Gen AI PC' Ryzen AI 300 mobile parts are not socketed or user-replaceable; the whole system board is the replaceable unit, so there is no CPU slot. HP publishes no TDP limit (configurable mobile cTDP fixed by BIOS/cooling). The EliteBook 6 G1a name covers 640/660 G1a, 6 G1ah and Ryzen 200 vs Ryzen AI 300 boards by region/SKU — verify the exact part number before ordering RAM or SSDs.

2x DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM (262-pin), non-ECC unbuffered; 32 GB per module, 64 GB max, no soldered RAM. Install two matched modules for dual-channel (a single stick runs single-channel and hurts the Radeon iGPU). Unusual 12/24 GB densities are non-standard — prefer HP-branded/validated modules. Mixing speeds down-clocks everything to the slower stick. HP labels the upgrade an IT/self-maintainer procedure (MSG says customer-replaceable).

Primary bay is 1x M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe Gen4 x4 (NVMe only — no SATA, no 2.5" bay). An optional second M.2 slot exists only on selected SKUs/markets/CPUs and the connector must be chosen at purchase to allow a later add. 2 TB is the largest drive HP offers. Gen5 SSDs work but run at Gen4 speed — don't pay for Gen5. Check Opal 2.0 SED vs Pyrite 2.0 drives if you need hardware-backed BitLocker.
