Gigabyte B850M Force V2 upgrades

Released 2025 · on sale

Micro-ATX B850 board; note there are four near-identical B850M FORCE SKUs (FORCE V2, FORCE rev.1.0, FORCE WIFI6E, FORCE WIFI6E V2) - only the WIFI6E models include MediaTek MT7902 Wi-Fi 6E/BT 5.3. Expansion: 1x PCIe 5.0 x16 (GPU/NVMe only) and 1x PCIe 4.0 x4. No USB4/Thunderbolt, no U.2/OCuLink/SlimSAS, no card reader. Detailed M.2/memory specs were cross-checked against the WIFI6E manual, which is electrically identical apart from the wireless module.

2x DDR5 DIMM (dual channel, UDIMM) 2 × DDR5 DIMM · up to 128 GB total · 9600 MT/s

Only 2 DIMM slots (one per channel) so 128 GB is the ceiling; DDR5 UDIMM only. Gigabyte says dual channel will not engage with a single stick (install one module in DDR5_A), so buy a matched 2-module kit. Non-ECC un-buffered is the only listed type; unbuffered ECC is unverified. Rated to DDR5-9600 (OC) with EXPO/XMP, but achievable speed depends on CPU and 1DPC/2DPC; check the QVL.

3x M.2 2280 PCIe (1x Gen5 + 2x Gen4) 3 × SSD M.2 2280 (NVMe)

M.2 PCIe/NVMe only - M.2 SATA drives are not supported. Only 2280 length is documented (no 2230/2242/2260/22110). M2A_CPU is Gen5 x4 but only with Ryzen 7000/9000 (Gen4 on Ryzen 8000); M2B_CPU is Gen4 x4 (x2 on Phoenix 2); M2C_SB is Gen4 x2 only - too slow for a main drive. No official max capacity. 4x SATA 6 Gb/s ports are also provided for 2.5/3.5 drives in your case; NVMe and SATA cannot be mixed in one RAID array, and RAID 5 needs a Ryzen 9000.

AMD Socket AM5 (LGA 1718) AM5 · Ryzen 7000, Ryzen 8000G, Ryzen 9000

B850 supports Ryzen 7000/8000/9000; the newest X3D chips need BIOS F8a (AGESA 1.2.8.0) - confirm the board ships updated (Q-Flash available). No max TDP is published, but the 8+2+2 VRM is fine for 65-120 W and only adequate for sustained 170 W parts like a 9950X. Ryzen 8000 APUs cut PCIe lanes: Phoenix 1 drops the GPU slot to Gen4 x8, Phoenix 2 to Gen4 x4 and halves M2B_CPU.
