Nothing is soldered — CPU and RAM are both user-replaceable. Important: 'ROG STRIX Z790-A GAMING WIFI' and the 'D4' version are two different boards (DDR5 vs DDR4); buy matching memory. There are no drive bays or card readers on the board; 2.5"/3.5" bay count and thickness limits are determined by your case.

DDR5 only — DDR4 DIMMs physically won't fit (the 'D4' board is a separate SKU). 4×48 GB = 192 GB needs a recent BIOS/AGESA; launch docs capped it at 128 GB. The 7800+ MT/s rating assumes 1 DIMM per channel with XMP — expect substantially lower with 4 DIMMs. Non-ECC unbuffered only; DDR5 On-Die ECC is not system ECC.

4 M.2 slots (all PCIe 4.0 x4) plus 4 SATA 6 Gb/s ports; Intel RST RAID 0/1/5/10. 22110 drives fit only M.2_1 and M.2_3. M.2_4 also takes SATA M.2 drives and then consumes SATA port bandwidth. No PCIe 5.0 M.2 — Gen5 SSDs run at Gen4 speeds unless used in the GPU slot. No 2230 without an adapter. No documented capacity limit; drive bays are your case's job.

Socketed LGA1700, one CPU. ASUS QVL covers 12th/13th/14th Gen Core plus Pentium Gold and Celeron. 14th Gen needs a BIOS update on early boards (BIOS FlashBack, no CPU needed). ASUS publishes no TDP ceiling; the 16+1+2 VRM is built for unlocked K-series at Intel's limits (~253 W PL2 sustained). Standard LGA1700 cooler mounting.
