ASUS Prime Z790-P WIFI upgrades

Two sibling boards exist: PRIME Z790-P WIFI (DDR5) and PRIME Z790-P WIFI D4 (DDR4). The memory slots are keyed differently and the modules are NOT interchangeable; specs above cover the DDR5 version (D4 is capped at 128 GB / DDR4-5333 OC). CPU is socketed (replaceable); no soldered RAM. Memory speed depends on CPU and how many DIMMs/ranks are populated.

DDR5 only — DDR4 modules are keyed differently and will not fit. Needs non-ECC unbuffered DIMMs. 192 GB total assumes 4x48 GB modules (the manual lists only up to 32 GB per stick, as it predates 48 GB modules). DDR5-7200+(OC) is a 2-DIMM XMP best case; expect lower with 4 DIMMs or dual-rank. Careful: the D4 variant is a different board.

Count is 3 M.2 (Key M) plus 4 SATA ports. All M.2 slots are PCIe 4.0 x4 only, so a Gen5 SSD runs at Gen4 speed. 22110 fits only in M.2_1 and M.2_3; M.2_2 max 2280. M.2_3 also accepts SATA M.2 — verify whether that disables a SATA port before filling all four. Intel RST RAID 0/1/5/10. 2.5"/3.5" drive fit is case-dependent.

Socketed LGA1700: supports 12th/13th/14th Gen Intel Core, Pentium Gold and Celeron. 14th Gen likely needs a current BIOS (original manuals list only 12th/13th Gen). No published TDP ceiling, but the budget 12+1-phase VRM is the limiting factor for sustained all-core loads on i9-class parts. Check the ASUS CPU support list before buying.
