Asus B850-Plus upgrades
Released 2025 · on sale
Name matches two ASUS boards (PRIME B850-PLUS / PRIME B850-PLUS WIFI and TUF GAMING B850-PLUS WIFI) plus a Wi-Fi variant; M.2 lengths and PCIe/SATA sharing differ between them. Figures above cover both; check which model you have before buying drives or cards.

4× DDR5 UDIMM (256 GB max, 8000+ MT/s) 4 × DDR5 DIMM · up to 256 GB total · 8000 MT/s
Desktop DDR5 UDIMM only (not SO-DIMM); DDR4 and older physically won't fit. Un-buffered only — server RDIMM/LRDIMM won't work. ECC and non-ECC both accepted (ECC function depends on CPU). 256 GB on the TUF needs a current BIOS (old manual says 192 GB). 8000+ MT/s is an OC rating — check ASUS QVL; 2 DIMMs clock higher than 4.

3× M.2 NVMe + 4× SATA 6 Gb/s 3 × SSD / HDD M.2 2242 / M.2 2260 / M.2 2280 / M.2 22110 (NVMe / SATA)
3× M.2 Key-M NVMe + 4× SATA 6 Gb/s; no drive bays — case mounts/caddies needed. 22110 fits only M.2_3 (PRIME) or only M.2_2 (TUF). Ryzen 8000 APU: top M.2 drops to Gen4, M.2_2 may run x2. TUF: M.2_3 disables the 2nd x16 slot; PRIME WIFI: PCIe x1 slots disable SATA 1/2. RAID level support varies by CPU generation.

AMD Socket AM5 (LGA-1718), 1 socket AM5 · Ryzen 7000, Ryzen 8000G, Ryzen 9000 · max 170 W
Socketed AM5: Ryzen 7000, 8000 and 9000 desktop CPUs. Some SKUs need a BIOS update (check ASUS CPU support list). ASUS states 170 W CPU support on the PRIME page; the TUF page gives no figure — verify your chip against the QVL. Ryzen 8000 APUs reduce lanes (GPU slot to x4/x8, M.2_1 to Gen4).
