Lenovo ThinkStation P350 Tiny upgrade guide

Mis à jour le 31 octobre 2026 · Rédigé d'après les spécifications vérifiées de cet appareil

The ThinkStation P350 Tiny (machine types 30G6 and 30G8) is small but surprisingly upgrade-friendly: both memory slots are socketed and there are two M.2 slots for SSDs. Even the processor can be swapped, because it sits in an Intel LGA1200 socket rather than being soldered down. Before you order anything, double-check the machine type on your unit. Kingston's compatibility page for this model lists different type numbers (30EF, 30EG, 30EJ), so if a seller's part list is based on those, verify it against your own 30G6/30G8 label. One important note too: your choice of processor decides how fast your memory and SSDs can run, so it's worth reading the CPU section before buying RAM or storage.

Memory (RAM)

The P350 Tiny has two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots on the system board (marked DIMM1 and DIMM2), and nothing is soldered, so both are yours to use. The rules are simple: DDR4 SO-DIMM only, non-ECC, unbuffered (non-registered), 1.2 V. Desktop DIMMs won't fit, and ECC or registered server modules won't work at all. Up to 32 GB per module and 64 GB in total is what Lenovo has tested; larger modules may work as memory technology moves on, but that's untested. Buy your modules as a matched pair and install both for dual-channel mode — Kingston specifically recommends ordering and installing them in pairs. The catch is speed: the actual memory speed is set by the processor's memory controller. 10th-gen Core i3 models top out at DDR4-2666, and only 11th-gen parts reach 3200 MT/s. Faster modules simply clock down, so on a 10th-gen machine there's no point paying extra for the fastest sticks.

Conseils d'achat

  • DDR4 SO-DIMM, non-ECC, unbuffered, 1.2 V — nothing else fits
  • Buy a matched pair (e.g. 2 x 16 GB) for dual-channel performance
  • Save money on a 10th-gen i3 model: it will run 3200 MT/s modules at 2666 anyway

Storage (SSD)

There are two M.2 slots on the system board, labelled SSD1 and SSD2. Slot 1 takes 2280 drives only; slot 2 accepts 2280 or 2242, with the mount point set for whichever length you use. Both are PCIe NVMe slots. SATA M.2 drives aren't documented, and although the hardware maintenance manual's board map shows a SATA connector for a hard disk drive, Lenovo's spec sheet says there are no 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch bays and offers no SATA drive or cable kit — so treat SATA storage as unsupported here. Which PCIe generation you get depends on the CPU: 10th-gen models run at Gen 3, 11th-gen at Gen 4. A Gen 4 drive will still work in a Gen 3 machine, it just runs at Gen 3 speed. Lenovo's tested ceiling is 2 TB per drive; bigger drives may well work but aren't validated. Since the product has been withdrawn, spare M.2 mounting screws can be hard to find — keep the originals safe.

Conseils d'achat

  • M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe drives fit both slots and are the safe choice
  • On a 10th-gen model, a cheaper Gen 3 drive gives you everything the slot can do
  • If you want a short 2242 drive, it must go in the second slot

Processor (CPU)

Yes, you can upgrade the processor — it's a socketed Intel LGA1200 part. Lenovo validated a specific list: 10th-gen Core i3 models (i3-10105, 10305, 10325, including their T variants) and 11th-gen Core i5, i7 and i9 (Rocket Lake: i5-11400/11500/11600, i7-11700, i9-11900, plus their T-series). Other LGA1200 chips — including 10th-gen i5/i7/i9 — may physically fit, but Lenovo hasn't validated them, and BIOS support and thermals are the real limits here. 65 W non-T parts are on the supported list, yet the 1-litre chassis runs warm, so the 35 W T-series chips are the safer pick if the machine works hard for long stretches. Swapping the CPU also changes what the rest of the machine can do: an 11th-gen chip unlocks DDR4-3200 memory speeds and PCIe Gen 4 for your SSDs, while a 10th-gen one caps memory at 2666 and storage at Gen 3. Check the current BIOS/firmware version before you start, and see the owner's manual for the cooler and socket handling details.

Conseils d'achat

  • Stay within Lenovo's supported list: 10th-gen i3 or 11th-gen i5/i7/i9
  • Prefer T-series (35 W) chips for sustained workloads in this tiny chassis
  • An 11th-gen CPU is the only route to DDR4-3200 and PCIe Gen 4

Comment mettre à niveau

Avant de commencer

  • Back up anything you care about — especially before touching storage.
  • Shut the system down fully and unplug the power cable and any attached devices.
  • Ground yourself (touch the unplugged chassis or use an anti-static strap) before handling parts.
  • Open the case following the owner's manual for your exact machine type; the manual's exploded views show the latches, screws and mount points. Keep small screws and M.2 hardware together.
  • Seat the part, close the case and reconnect power.
  • Start the machine and enter the BIOS/firmware setup to confirm it recognises the new memory, drive or processor, then boot into your system and check the capacity or model there too.

Étapes

  1. Step 1 — Back up
Make a current backup of your data before you touch anything. If you are upgrading storage, plan how you will move your system to the new drive first.
  2. Step 2 — Power off and unplug
Shut the P350 Tiny down properly, unplug the power cord, and disconnect all cables.
  3. Step 3 — Ground yourself
Discharge any static: touch the metal of the unplugged chassis or use an anti-static wrist strap. Handle memory and boards by their edges.
  4. Step 4 — Open the case
Follow the disassembly instructions in the owner's manual or hardware maintenance manual for your machine type. Take care with the M.2 screws and mount points — spares are scarce for this withdrawn model.
  5. Step 5 — Install
Fit the memory, SSD or processor as described in the matching section above. For memory, use a matched pair in DIMM1 and DIMM2. For an SSD, make sure the drive is in a slot that accepts its length.
  6. Step 6 — Close up
Reassemble in reverse order, making sure every screw and mount is back where it belongs and no cables are trapped.
  7. Step 7 — Check the BIOS/firmware
Power on and enter the BIOS/firmware setup. Confirm the new module, drive or processor is detected and showing the expected capacity or speed. Then boot up and double-check in your operating system.

Bon à savoir

  • Capacity figures (64 GB RAM, 2 TB per SSD) are Lenovo's tested limits, not hard limits — larger modules and drives may work but are unvalidated.
  • Where sources disagree, we say so: the hardware maintenance manual shows a SATA connector that Lenovo's spec sheet contradicts with 'no bays', and Kingston's page uses different machine type numbers than Lenovo's 30G6/30G8.

Foire aux questions

How much RAM can the Lenovo ThinkStation P350 Tiny take?

Up to 64 GB, as 2 x 32 GB DDR4 non-ECC SO-DIMMs across its two slots. Lenovo lists 64 GB as its tested ceiling, so larger modules may work but aren't validated.

Does the ThinkStation P350 Tiny support ECC or registered memory?

No. Both slots need DDR4 SO-DIMM, non-ECC, unbuffered modules at 1.2 V. ECC and RDIMM server memory won't work, and desktop-sized DIMMs won't physically fit.

Can I add a 2.5-inch SSD or hard drive?

Not as a supported upgrade. Lenovo's spec sheet lists no drive bays at all, and no SATA drive or cable kit is offered. The hardware maintenance manual does show a SATA connector on the system board, so sources disagree here — but with no bay or documented cable kit, SATA storage should be treated as unsupported. Stick to M.2 NVMe SSDs.

Does the P350 Tiny support PCIe Gen 4 SSDs?

Only with an 11th-gen Core processor. With a 10th-gen CPU the M.2 slots run at PCIe Gen 3, and a Gen 4 drive will operate at Gen 3 speed. Either generation of drive works in either machine.

Can I upgrade the CPU, and which ones fit?

Yes, it has a socketed Intel LGA1200 socket. Lenovo validated 10th-gen Core i3 (10105/10305/10325, including T variants) and 11th-gen Core i5/i7/i9 (including T-series). Other LGA1200 chips are unvalidated, and the tight 1 L chassis makes 35 W T-series processors the safer choice.

Can I install a graphics card?

Only a low-profile card, and only with Lenovo's proprietary riser card — either x16 physical with an x8 link or x4, per Lenovo's spec sheet. Full-size GPUs don't fit in this chassis, and since the product has been withdrawn, finding the correct riser may be difficult.
