Intel NUC 10 Performance Kit (NUC10i7FNH) upgrade guide
Mis à jour le 30 octobre 2026 · Rédigé d'après les spécifications vérifiées de cet appareil
The Intel NUC 10 Performance Kit NUC10i7FNH, nicknamed Frost Canyon, is a small desktop that's easy to upgrade in two ways: memory and storage. The processor is a different story. Here's what fits in the NUC10i7FNH, plus its siblings the NUC10i5FNH and NUC10i3FNH, which use the same chassis and board layout. One thing to check first: the H in the model name means the tall chassis with a 2.5-inch drive bay. The slim K models (NUC10i7FNK and friends) have no 2.5-inch bay at all, so ignore the storage bay section if you own one of those.

2022
Estimation
Third-party listing marks all Frost Canyon kits 'Discontinued' and 'Replaced by the Intel NUC 12 Pro Kits'; the year is inferred from the NUC 12 Pro (2022) successor. Intel published no date — ARK says only 'Expected Discontinuance: See Roadmap'. Source ↗ |

RAM
The NUC10i7FNH has two 260-pin SO-DIMM slots, and no memory is soldered to the board, so whatever is installed can be replaced. It takes DDR4 SO-DIMMs at 1.2 volts, running at DDR4-2666 (PC4-21300) in dual channel. Maximum total memory is 64 GB, which means two 32 GB modules.
Limits to respect: the memory must be non-ECC and unbuffered. ECC or registered modules are not supported, and neither is 1.35 V memory. Modules rated faster than 2666, such as DDR4-3200, will work but run at 2666 anyway, so there's no point paying extra for speed you can't use. Note that 32 GB SO-DIMMs for this platform are generally dual-rank parts; if you're aiming for the full 64 GB, check buyer reports before ordering.
Buying tips: look for DDR4-2666 1.2 V SO-DIMM kits, non-ECC. If you want 64 GB, buy a matched pair of 32 GB modules; for a cheaper upgrade, a matched pair of 8 GB or 16 GB modules keeps the dual-channel configuration balanced.
Conseils d'achat
- DDR4-2666 1.2 V SO-DIMM (laptop memory), non-ECC unbuffered
- Two identical modules for dual channel; two 32 GB sticks for the 64 GB maximum
- Faster DDR4 is fine but adds nothing — it runs at 2666

Storage
You get two internal storage options. First, one M.2 Key M slot that takes 2242 or 2280 drives (2260 is not supported) on PCIe Gen3 x4. It accepts NVMe or SATA-protocol M.2 SSDs. Second, on the tall H chassis only, a 2.5-inch SATA 6 Gb/s bay.
Watch-outs: the 2.5-inch bay only accepts drives 7 mm thick — 9.5 mm laptop drives will not fit, no matter the capacity. The NUC has two SATA ports in total: one for the 2.5-inch bay and one that a SATA-protocol M.2 drive will use. So if you put a SATA SSD in the M.2 slot, that consumes one of the two SATA ports. A Gen4 NVMe SSD will work but will run at Gen3 speed. Intel states no maximum drive capacity; common 1-2 TB drives and larger 2.5-inch SSDs are widely used, but treat maximum capacity as officially unspecified.
Also worth knowing: the SD card slot is a full-size SDXC reader with UHS-II support, and the small M.2 2230 Key E slot inside is for the Wi-Fi module (Intel AX200), not for storage.
Buying tips: a PCIe Gen3 NVMe SSD in 2280 size is the simplest fast upgrade. For bulk storage on the H chassis, choose a 7 mm 2.5-inch SATA SSD or HDD. Keep NVMe in the M.2 slot and SATA in the bay if you want both, since the ports are shared in the way described above.
Conseils d'achat
- M.2 2280 NVMe (PCIe Gen3 x4) for speed; 2242 also fits
- 2.5-inch SATA drive must be 7 mm thick for the tall H chassis
- Slim K chassis: no 2.5-inch bay, M.2 only

Comment mettre à niveau
Avant de commencer
- Back up your data before touching anything.
- Shut down, switch off and unplug the power supply (some 'No Cord' versions ship without a power cord, and the NUC uses a 90/120 W 19 VDC supply).
- Ground yourself to avoid static damage to the parts.
- Open the case, install the parts, close the case, then start the machine and check in the BIOS/firmware that the memory and drives are detected.
- For the exact disassembly procedure for your model, follow Intel's owner's manual.
Étapes
- General upgrade outline
1. Back up anything important. 2. Shut down, power off and unplug the NUC. 3. Ground yourself before handling the components. 4. Open the case (see the owner's manual for the exact method — the NUC chassis uses small external screws and internal mounting hardware for the 2.5-inch drive). 5. Install the SO-DIMM or drive in its slot. 6. Close the case and reconnect power. 7. Start the machine and check the BIOS/firmware sees the new memory and drives.
Bon à savoir
- Sources disagree on the i7-10710U's base clock: Intel ARK gives 1.1 GHz base with 4.7 GHz turbo, while one retailer lists 1.6 GHz base. Trust Intel's figures.
- Intel publishes no maximum drive capacity for the storage bays, so treat any maximum capacity figure as unofficial.
- Pre-built Mini PC versions of this model ship with RAM and drives already fitted; the bare kit version is empty. The upgrade hardware is the same either way.
Foire aux questions
How much RAM can the Intel NUC 10 NUC10i7FNH take?
64 GB maximum, using two 32 GB DDR4-2666 SO-DIMMs. It has two slots and no soldered memory.
Can I upgrade the CPU in the NUC10i7FNH?
No. The i7-10710U is soldered to the board in a BGA package. There is no socket, so the processor can't be swapped.
What SSDs fit the NUC 10 Performance Kit?
The M.2 slot takes 2242 or 2280 drives (2260 is not supported), NVMe or SATA. The tall H chassis also has a 2.5-inch SATA bay for 7 mm drives. The slim K chassis has no 2.5-inch bay.
Does the NUC10i7FNH support ECC memory?
No. Only non-ECC, unbuffered DDR4 SO-DIMMs at 1.2 V are supported. ECC and registered modules won't work.
Do I need 7 mm or 9.5 mm 2.5-inch drives?
7 mm only. A 9.5 mm drive will not fit in the bay, regardless of capacity.
Will faster RAM such as DDR4-3200 run faster?
No. Faster modules work, but they run at DDR4-2666, the maximum speed the NUC supports.
