X470 Gaming Plus Max MSI upgrades

The CPU is socketed (AM4), so a CPU slot object is included. Memory is fully socketed with 4 DIMM slots (no soldered RAM). MAX variant ships with a 32 MB BIOS and Ryzen 3000-ready firmware; verify BIOS version before installing 32 GB DIMMs (128 GB total) or newer CPUs. With APUs/Athlon the top GPU slot runs x8/x4, memory maxes at 2400-2667 MHz and M2_1 drops to PCIe 3.0 x2.

Desktop 288-pin UDIMM only (not SO-DIMM, not RDIMM). 128 GB needs ComboPI 1.0.0.3+ BIOS with 32 GB DIMMs (older docs say 64 GB). 4133 MHz is A-XMP with Ryzen 3000 R5/R7/R9; 3466 MHz with 1st/2nd Gen, 2400–2667 with Athlon/APU. ECC UDIMMs fit but run in non-ECC mode. Keep DRAM ≤1.35 V and add airflow with 4 DIMMs.

M2_1 (CPU lanes) is NVMe/PCIe-only, no SATA, accepts 22110, PCIe 3.0 x4 (x2 on Athlon/older APUs). M2_2 (chipset) takes PCIe 2.0 x4 or SATA in 2242-2280; a SATA drive in M2_2 disables SATA1, an NVMe drive disables PCI_E6. No documented drive capacity limit; 2.5"/3.5" bay limits come from the case.
