Supermicro X14SBI-TF upgrades
Released 2024 · on sale
ATX-class Supermicro X14 server/workstation motherboard (X14SBI-TF = 2× 10 GbE X550-AT2; X14SBI-F = 2× 1 GbE i210 is otherwise identical). No onboard drive bays — bay count, backplanes and height limits come from the chassis. Memory must be DDR5 ECC registered; 2 TB maximum requires expensive 256 GB 3DS RDIMMs (realistic RDIMM builds top out at 512 GB–1 TB). Source disagreement: the manual conflates 2 TB with DDR5-8000 — trust the spec sheet (2 TB @ 6400; 512 GB @ 8000 MRDIMM, P-core only). 350 W TDP socket needs server-grade cooling and airflow.

8× DDR5 RDIMM/MRDIMM (ECC registered) 8 × DDR5 DIMM · up to 2.048 TB total · 8000 MT/s · registered (RDIMM) · ECC
Requires DDR5 ECC registered modules (RDIMM, 3DS RDIMM, MRDIMM) at 1.1 V; desktop UDIMMs/non-ECC will not work. 2 TB total needs 8×256 GB 3DS RDIMM @ DDR5-6400. DDR5-8000 uses MRDIMM (max 512 GB) and is P-core Xeon only, 1DPC.

Single Socket E2 (LGA-4710) LGA4677 · Xeon E-2300 · max 350 W
Socket E2 / LGA-4710 — not in the standard LGA list, so check your cooler/motherboard pairing (4677 shown only as placeholder; do not assume mechanical compatibility). Supports Xeon 6700/6500 P-core (Granite Rapids) and Xeon 6700 E-core (Sierra Forest). P-core parts need BIOS 1.2+. FULL I/O requires a specific CPU (6781P/6761P/6741P/6731P/6521P; 6511P eligibility differs between sources) — otherwise you lose SLOT6 and 4 of 6 MCIO NVMe connectors. MRDIMM and CXL are P-core-only.

2× M.2 22110 NVMe + 6× MCIO + 4× SATA (SlimSAS) 8 × M.2 22110 (NVMe / SATA)
M.2 slots (M-key) are PCIe 5.0 x2 and accept ONLY 22110 drives — 2280/2260/2242 won't mount (no standoff); buy an adapter bracket for shorter SSDs. 4× SATA 6 Gb/s come from an ASM1164 via a SlimSAS x4 connector — breakout cable required, no direct SATA ports. 6× MCIO (SFF-TA-1016) PCIe 5.0 x8 for NVMe; JNVME3-6 need specific CPUs, JNVME1-2 also do CXL 2.0. Bays/height limits are chassis-defined; no published max capacity.
