Supermicro H12SSL upgrades

Released 2020 · on sale

Four variants (i/C/CT/NT) share CPU/memory but differ in storage: -NT has no SATA, SAS only on -C/-CT, 10GBase-T only on -CT. Board-only SKU: chassis determines drive bays, backplanes and thickness limits.

8x DDR4-3200 RDIMM/LRDIMM (ECC registered) 8 × DDR4 DIMM · up to 2.048 TB total · 3200 MT/s · registered (RDIMM) · ECC

Registered ECC RDIMM/LRDIMM (incl. 3DS) only; UDIMM/non-ECC desktop DDR4 will not work. 8-channel: use 8 matched modules for full bandwidth, fewer is 'not recommended'. Mixed speeds run at the slowest. Manual says 128GB/DIMM but 256GB 3DS modules are what reach the 2TB max.

2x M.2 (PCIe 4.0 x4) + SATA/SAS/SlimSAS ports 2 × SSD / HDD M.2 2280 / M.2 22110 (NVMe / SATA / SAS)

count = the 2 M.2 sockets (M-key, NVMe only; 2280/22110, no 2230/2242/2260). Ports vary by variant: 8x SATA on -i/-C/-CT (0 on -NT), SAS3008 on -C/-CT only (manual says 8 ports, -CT page says 2). NVMe ports are SlimSAS x8 and need a break-out cable. No board-level drive bays or capacity ceiling; bays/height limits are chassis-dependent.

1x Socket SP3 (AMD EPYC 7002/7003) SP3 · EPYC 7002, EPYC 7003

EPYC 7002 (Rome) and 7003 (Milan); Milan-X (3D V-Cache) needs BIOS 2.3+. No published TDP ceiling from cited sources—check Supermicro's QVL (SP3 SKUs span ~120-280W) and use SP3 cooling with the 7 fan headers. Board ships bare: no cooler or chassis.
