MSI B550M PRO-VDH upgrades

Released 2020 · on sale

Micro-ATX board; identical memory/storage/CPU specs across the plain, WIFI (AC 3168) and WIFI6 variants, which differ only in wireless. CPU is socketed AM4. Real 2.5"/3.5" drive bays are case-dependent - the board only provides the 4 SATA ports and 2 M.2 slots described above.

4x DDR4 DIMM (desktop UDIMM), up to 128 GB 4 × DDR4 DIMM · up to 128 GB total · 4400 MT/s

DDR4 only (no DDR5). A-XMP rated up to 4400 MHz with 1 DIMM per channel; with 4 sticks expect 3466-3866 MHz, and Ryzen memory controllers often top out ~3600-3800. ECC UDIMM works on older manual/spec (Ryzen non-G only) but newer manual says non-ECC only; never registered/RDIMM. Install matched pairs in A2/B2.

M2_1 (CPU lanes): NVMe PCIe 4.0 x4 with Ryzen 3000/5000 non-G, else PCIe 3.0; also accepts SATA M.2. M2_2 (chipset): PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe only, no SATA. No 22110 support. Remove board M.2 plate if SSD has own heatsink (width limits 24/25 mm). Check manual for SATA/M.2 port sharing before populating both.

Socket AM4 - Ryzen 3000/4000G/5000/5000G AM4 · Ryzen 3000, Ryzen 3000, Ryzen 5000, Ryzen 5000

Ryzen 1000/2000 and Zen+ 3200G/3400G are NOT supported. Sources disagree on 3000G APUs: older spec page excludes 3200G/3400G (which are Zen+/2000G), newer manual lists 3000 G-Series. A BIOS update may be needed for Ryzen 5000/5000G on older stock - confirm 'Ryzen 5000 Ready' or use BIOS Flash. No published TDP cap; 4+2-phase VRM is budget-grade, so check VRM reviews before sustained 105 W loads.
