MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX II upgrades
Desktop ATX-class AM4 board with four DDR4 UDIMM slots, one M.2 slot and six SATA ports. Extra storage can be added through PCIe slots with adapters or cards. Ryzen 5000 chips may need a BIOS update, which the sources do not cover.
- DDR4 UDIMM slot: 4 × DDR4 DIMM · up to 128 GB total · 4133 MT/s
- M.2 slot (Key M): SSD M.2 2242 / M.2 2260 / M.2 2280 / M.2 22110 (NVMe / SATA)
- SATA 6Gb/s ports (for 2.5" / 3.5" drives): 6 × HDD / SSD 2.5" / 3.5" (SATA)
DDR4 UDIMM slot 4 × DDR4 DIMM · up to 128 GB total · 4133 MT/s
Per-module max of 32 GB is inferred from Kingston's 128 GB upgrade path; MSI does not state it. Install the first module in DIMMA2 and use pairs for dual channel. 4133 MT/s is OC and 3rd Gen Ryzen only; other CPUs top out at 3466. ECC UDIMMs run in non-ECC mode only.

M.2 slot (Key M) SSD M.2 2242 / M.2 2260 / M.2 2280 / M.2 22110 (NVMe / SATA)
PCIe 3.0 x4 (x2 with Athlon with Radeon Vega graphics); Gen4 drives work at Gen3 speed. Installing an M.2 drive disables SATA5 and SATA6. NVMe drives cannot be used in SATA RAID.

SATA 6Gb/s ports (for 2.5" / 3.5" drives) 6 × HDD / SSD 2.5" / 3.5" (SATA)
These are board ports only; drive bays and thickness limits depend on the case. SATA5 and SATA6 are disabled when the M.2 slot is used, leaving 4. RAID 0, 1 and 10 supported for SATA devices.
