Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 (AMD) upgrades

Released 2021 · on sale · supported until Oct. 23, 2027

CPU is soldered (AMD FP6 BGA, Ryzen 3000-series absent; Ryzen 3/5/7 PRO 5450U-5850U Cezanne U-series only) - no CPU socket and no CPU slot object. RAM capacity depends on the soldered amount chosen at purchase; check the MTM/PSREF entry (20XK vs 20XL) before ordering parts, since WWAN/smart-card/card-reader provisions vary. No Thunderbolt on AMD configs; expansion is USB-C/USB-A external only.

1x DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM (8/16 GB soldered) DDR4 SO-DIMM · 16 GB soldered · up to 48 GB total · 3200 MT/s

One SO-DIMM slot is user-accessible; the second module is soldered (8 or 16 GB by config, fixed at purchase), so totals top out at 40 GB (8 GB soldered) or 48 GB (16 GB soldered). Use DDR4-3200 CL22 1.2 V non-ECC unbuffered; faster-rated modules clock down to the CPU's supported speed. Asymmetric pairs run partial dual-channel, hurting Radeon iGPU performance. 64 GB SO-DIMMs unsupported.

M.2 2280/2242 NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 (1 drive) SSD M.2 2280 / M.2 2242 (NVMe) · up to 2 TB

One M.2 slot, one drive total: either M.2 2280 (up to 2 TB, Opal 2.0) or M.2 2242 (up to 256 GB as shipped) - the 2242 is an alternative format for the same position, not a second bay. Slot is PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe; Gen 4 drives work but run at Gen 3 speed. Kingston says single-sided SSDs only, so avoid double-sided 4 TB drives. No SATA or 2.5" bay.
