Lenovo ThinkPad P53 upgrades

CPU is soldered (BGA, 9th Gen Coffee Lake Refresh H-series / Xeon E-2276M) — no CPU slot, buy the CPU tier you need up front. Only RAM, storage and WLAN are realistically upgradeable. Machine types 20QN (Core) / 20QQ (Xeon) — do not confuse with the P53s, which has soldered/2-slot RAM and much lower limits. SD reader is UHS-II but lacks CPRM support.

All memory is removable; 4 SO-DIMMs (2 above, 2 below the board stack), dual-channel with 2 or 4 DIMMs. DDR4-3200 modules will downclock to 2666. ECC unbuffered modules work only on Xeon E-2276M models (do not mix ECC and non-ECC); Core i5/i7/i9 models require non-ECC only.

Configurations are 1× 2.5" HDD + 2× M.2 or 3× M.2 (confirm 3 M.2 slots present on your build). M.2 slots are PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe per PSREF; a third-party sheet mentions SATA M.2 on some slots — verify before buying a SATA M.2 drive. 2.5" bay needs 7 mm drives and possibly the HDD bracket/cable kit on 3× M.2 builds. Lenovo-validated max 2 TB per drive (6 TB total).
