Lenovo ThinkCentre M920q Tiny upgrades
Released 2018 · support ended
Lenovo ThinkCentre M920q Tiny (1L chassis). CPU is socketed (LGA1151/1151v2, Q370), so an upgrade is possible within 35 W T-series limits. 2 × SO-DIMM slots, none soldered; 32 GB is the validated maximum. Power adapter must be 135 W if a low-profile PCIe add-in card is used (90 W for i7/USB-C configs, 65 W base), and that card disables the 2.5" bay. SFF/tower M920 variants use different memory and bays.

- 2 × DDR4 SO-DIMM 260-pin: 2 × DDR4 SO-DIMM · up to 32 GB total · 2666 MT/s
- 2.5" SATA 6 Gb/s bay (7 mm only): SSD / HDD 2.5" (SATA) · max 7 mm thick
- M.2 slot (2242 x2 / 2280 x4 NVMe): SSD M.2 2242 / M.2 2280 (NVMe)
- LGA1151v2 socket (35 W T-series): LGA1151 (8th/9th gen) · Core 8th gen, Core 9th gen · max 35 W
2 × DDR4 SO-DIMM 260-pin 2 × DDR4 SO-DIMM · up to 32 GB total · 2666 MT/s
Non-ECC unbuffered DDR4 only; populate DIMM1 first. DDR4-2666 requires i5/i7/i9, otherwise RAM runs at 2400. Lenovo validates 2×16 GB = 32 GB; 2×32 GB (64 GB) often works on this platform but is not Lenovo-validated and may be BIOS-dependent.

2.5" SATA 6 Gb/s bay (7 mm only) SSD / HDD 2.5" (SATA) · max 7 mm thick
7 mm z-height drives only; 9.5 mm will not fit. Bare units may lack the caddy/bracket and SATA cable (Lenovo mounting kit). Mutually exclusive with a low-profile PCIe add-in card: installing a card disables this bay. Lenovo's 1 TB HDD / 256 GB SSD figures are config limits, not hardware limits.

M.2 slot (2242 x2 / 2280 x4 NVMe) SSD M.2 2242 / M.2 2280 (NVMe)
2242 = PCIe 3.0 x2, 2280 = PCIe 3.0 x4; Opal SED on 2280. Listed as NVMe only — do not assume M.2 SATA SSDs work. The separate M.2 WLAN slot is for Wi-Fi/BT only. Optional Optane M10 not supported on Celeron/Pentium configs. 2 TB+ drives work in practice despite Lenovo's 1 TB validated ceiling.

LGA1151v2 socket (35 W T-series) LGA1151 (8th/9th gen) · Core 8th gen, Core 9th gen · max 35 W
Socketed LGA1151 on Q370 (300-series). Supports 8th Gen Coffee Lake and 9th Gen Coffee Lake Refresh (up to i9-9900T); 9th Gen requires a recent BIOS — verify version before upgrading. Lenovo limits the M920q to 35 W T-series; the 65 W capability is the M920x, not the q. The 1L cooler strongly favors 35 W parts.
