Lenovo ThinkCentre M75q Gen 2 Tiny upgrades

Released 2021 · on sale · supported until July 31, 2031 (estimate)

No CPU slot: the APU is soldered (BGA) with no socket upgrade path — buy the tier you need (Athlon Silver/Gold, Ryzen 3000GE/4000GE/5000GE PRO, all 35 W GE parts). All memory is socketed; storage is 1x M.2 + 1x 2.5" bay. No PCIe expansion slots; optional onboard serial (COM2) connector and external optical drive box. Model identification: all official Lenovo sources show MTM prefix 11JN for the M75q Gen 2 (11J4/11J5 labels disagree with Lenovo docs) — verify the MTM on PSREF, since Gen 1 parts differ.

DDR4 SO-DIMM slots (2, dual-channel) 2 × DDR4 SO-DIMM · up to 64 GB total · 3200 MT/s

Both DIMM1/DIMM2 are socketed (no soldered RAM); unbuffered non-ECC DDR4 SO-DIMM only, no ECC/registered support documented. Actual speed is capped by the APU: Athlon/Ryzen 3000 (Picasso) run DDR4-2666/2933, Ryzen 4000/5000 run 3200. The 64 GB ceiling is Lenovo-validated with its own modules, not a hard chipset limit. Most units ship a single stick (1x8 or 1x16 GB) — add a matched second for dual-channel, which matters for the integrated Radeon GPU. Toolless install.

M.2 2242/2280 NVMe SSD slot (1) SSD M.2 2242 / M.2 2280 (NVMe) · up to 1.024 TB

Single M.2 slot: 2242 length runs PCIe 3.0 x2 only; 2280 runs PCIe 3.0 x4 or 4.0 x4. No SATA protocol on this slot (the SATA connector is for the 2.5" bay). Gen 4 x4 speeds realistically need a Ryzen 5000 (Cezanne) config — inference from Lenovo's APU table, since Picasso/Renoir are Gen 3 designs; Gen 4 drives still work at Gen 3 speed. Opal/Opal 2.0 self-encrypting drives supported on 2280. 1 TB is Lenovo's tested max, not a controller limit; 2 TB+ generally works unvalidated.

2.5-inch SATA drive bay (1) HDD / SSD 2.5" (SATA) · max 7 mm thick · up to 1.024 TB

One SATA 6 Gb/s bay fed by the onboard SATA 3.0 connector; 5.4K/7.2K HDDs or 2.5" SSDs. Can run together with the M.2 SSD for 2 drives total — no RAID backplane or extra internal bays. 7 mm drive height is the practical limit in the Tiny chassis but is not documented in the retrieved sources (HMM/parts list shows no thickness spec) — verify before buying a 9.5 mm drive. 1 TB is Lenovo's validated max; larger drives should work but are untested.
