Lenovo ThinkCentre M710s Small Form Factor upgrades
Released 2017 · on sale
Lenovo ThinkCentre M710s SFF (Type 10MQ/10MR), 8.4 L chassis on Intel B250. CPU is socketed (LGA 1151), all RAM is socketed (4 DIMM slots), so no soldered-memory or soldered-CPU caveats. All expansion slots are low-profile; the optional front 2x USB-C module occupies the PCIe x16 slot, leaving no room for a GPU. 180 W PSU limits discrete graphics to low-profile, slot-powered cards (~35 W, ≤150 mm). Do not confuse with the M710t (tower) or M710q (tiny).

4x DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) 4 × DDR4 DIMM · up to 64 GB total · 2400 MT/s
Four full-size 288-pin DIMM slots, no soldered RAM. Must use non-ECC unbuffered DDR4 UDIMM (1.2 V); server ECC/registered memory will not work. DDR4-2400 max, but a 6th-gen CPU (e.g. i5-6500, i7-6700) caps RAM at 2133 MT/s; 2400 needs 7th-gen. DDR4-2666 modules work only by downclocking. B250 does not overclock (XMP irrelevant).

M.2 NVMe + 3x SATA bays (1x 3.5", 1x 2.5") 4 × SSD / HDD / HDD M.2 2242 / M.2 2280 / 2.5" / 3.5" (NVMe / SATA)
1x M.2 M-key SSD slot (PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe, 2280 confirmed; 2242 per Lenovo FRU — check your standoff). SATA M.2 is not officially documented; Gen4 NVMe drives run at Gen3 speeds. SATA is limited to 3 ports total (ODD + 3.5" + 2.5" drive). The 2.5" bay is optional and may lack a caddy on used units; 3.5" bay is 25.4 mm high. No documented capacity ceiling. Key-E Wi-Fi M.2 slot cannot take storage. Optane needs a 7th-gen CPU; update BIOS before adding NVMe.

LGA 1151 (B250) - 6th/7th gen Intel LGA1151 (6th/7th gen) · Core 6th gen, Core 7th gen · max 65 W
Socketed LGA 1151 (rev 1) on Intel B250: supports only 6th-gen (Skylake) and 7th-gen (Kaby Lake) Core i3/i5/i7, Pentium and Celeron. Top option is Core i7-7700. 8th/9th-gen chips physically fit but will NOT work (chipset/BIOS) — a common eBay mistake. Lenovo lists no 91 W 'K' CPUs; 65 W max, 35 W 'T' models supported. Use the stock SFF cooler/PSU limits when upgrading.
