Lenovo Legion 5 15IMH05 upgrades

Released 2020 · on sale

CPU is BGA soldered (10th Gen Intel Comet Lake-H, HM470, 45W) — no CPU slot and no upgrade path; the only upgrade is buying a different config at purchase. Match your exact Machine Type (82AU/82B5) before ordering parts; the 17in 17IMH05 has different internals. Max memory/storage figures are Lenovo test results, not hard ceilings. Referenced config's official End of Support is 2026-05-27.

2x DDR4 SO-DIMM (260-pin) 2 × DDR4 SO-DIMM · up to 32 GB total · 2933 MT/s

Both slots are user-accessible, nothing soldered. Lenovo says 16GB max, Kingston confirms 32GB (2x16GB) — 32GB is the safe target. 2x32GB (64GB) often works but is unsupported; buy with returns. Install a matched pair for dual channel. DDR4-3200 modules work but run at 2933MT/s due to the CPU, so don't pay extra for 3200.

M.2 NVMe + 2.5in SATA bays (config dependent) 2 × M.2 2242 / M.2 2280 / SO-DIMM (NVMe / SATA) · max 7 mm thick · up to 2.048 TB

Two configs: 1x M.2 + 2.5in SATA bay (HDD up to 2TB, 7mm thick), or 2x M.2 with no 2.5in drive. M.2 slots take 2242/2280, PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe; SATA M.2 not documented. Lenovo-tested caps: 512GB (2242), 1TB (2280), 2TB (2.5in) — larger drives usually work. Dual-M.2 units may lack the 2.5in caddy/cable; check your Type 82B5/82AU before buying a 2.5in drive.
