Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15IHU6 upgrades

CPU is soldered (BGA), no socket and no upgrade path: 11th-gen Intel Tiger Lake-H35 (i5-11300H/11320H, i7-11370H/11390H), 35 W, machine types 82K1/82MG. The discrete GPU (GTX 1650 / RTX 3050 Laptop up to 90 W) is soldered as well. Identity warning: machine type 82K2 is the AMD IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6, not the 15IHU6 — memory/storage layouts are the same but the CPU differs. Wi-Fi is an M.2 2230 key-E card (upgradable, verify before buying). No SD/microSD reader, no Thunderbolt on 15IHU6.

Both slots are socketed (nothing soldered); buy matched pairs for dual-channel — single-stick stock configs (1×8 GB) halve bandwidth and cost gaming FPS. DDR4 SO-DIMM 260-pin 1.2 V, non-ECC unbuffered only; faster modules simply clock down to 3200. Lenovo validates 16 GB modules (32 GB total); 32 GB modules / 64 GB total often work but are unvalidated.

2.5" SATA + M.2 2242/2280 NVMe (2 of 3 bays usable) 3 × SSD / HDD SO-DIMM (NVMe / SATA) · max 7 mm thick
Three bays but only two can be populated at once: the 2.5" bay and the M.2 2280 bay are mutually exclusive (shared space/cabling). Valid combos: 2.5" SATA + M.2 2242, or M.2 2242 + M.2 2280. 2280 slot is only PCIe 3.0 x2 (~2 GB/s) — don't pay for Gen4; the 2242 slot is the faster one (3.0 x4). M.2 drives must be single-sided; 2242 is uncommon, buy before opening. 2.5" drives limited to 7 mm thick. Lenovo's 512 GB/1 TB figures are tested offerings, not hard limits.
