No soldered RAM - both SO-DIMM slots are user-accessible. The Performance base unit adds a proprietary MXM graphics module (PCIe Gen3 x16, Quadro P620/P1000), not usable for storage; the Entry unit has integrated graphics only. No memory-card reader; optical drive is an optional external USB ultra-slim DVD-RW. Optional Intel Optane M.2 accelerator is Windows 10 only and requires a SATA HDD, not an SSD. Source note: Kingston's 'Core i9' reference is wrong for this model (no i9 option); HP's '2666' kits shipping with 3200-rated chips is cosmetic only.

ECC support is dictated by the CPU: Xeon E, Core i3 and Pentium Gold accept ECC or non-ECC, Core i5/i7 accept non-ECC only; never mix ECC and non-ECC or modules of different specs. Use matched pairs for dual-channel, larger module in DIMM1. Speed is capped by the CPU at 2666 MT/s even with faster DIMMs. 64 GB total assumes 64-bit OS.

One M.2 2280 slot (PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe) plus one 2.5" SATA 6 Gb/s bay; both can run at once. An M.2 heatsink is required. No hardware RAID/RST/drive-lock; a single NVMe slot means no RAID. The 2.5" bay thickness limit is not documented - confirm fit before buying 9.5/15 mm drives (slim 7 mm assumed); 3.5" drives unsupported. The M.2 2230 slot is WLAN/Bluetooth only. 2 TB reflects HP's largest listed kits, not a proven ceiling.

CPU is socketed and replaceable, but HP documents 8th-gen Coffee Lake only: Xeon E-2100/E-2200, Core i7-8700, i5-8600/8500, i3-8100, Pentium Gold G5400 - no 9th-gen support. The mini chassis caps TDP at 95 W (top part Xeon E-2286G). Memory speed and ECC capability follow the installed CPU (i5/i7 = non-ECC only).
