HP ProBook 450 G9 Notebook PC upgrades

CPU is soldered (BGA, 12th-Gen Intel Alder Lake U/P-series) — no CPU socket, so no CPU upgrade path. Storage is M.2 NVMe only: primary slot supports 2230/2280, plus a config-dependent secondary M.2 2230 slot. Factory CPU options span i3-1215U to i7-1260P (15 W U-series or 28 W P-series) — thermal/battery behavior differs between variants.

No soldered RAM; all memory is in the two user-accessible slots. Use 1.2 V non-ECC, unbuffered DDR4-3200 SO-DIMMs; no XMP support. HP validates up to 2×16 GB (32 GB); larger modules unverified. Mixed speeds run at the slower stick. HP recommends HP-branded memory and warns upgrades are 'IT or self-maintainers only' (possible warranty implications). Matched pairs give dual channel (4+8 GB factory configs are single-channel-ish).

Primary slot takes 2230 or 2280 NVMe SSDs (Gen3 or Gen4 work; Gen4x4 capable); HP's official max is 1 TB, though larger drives physically fit but are unvalidated. A second M.2 2230 slot exists only on some configs (quickspec footnote) — verify before buying a second drive. No 2.5" bay and no M.2 SATA support. Use single-sided drives ~2.3 mm thick; heatsinked or double-sided drives may not fit.
