HP ProBook 450 G5 upgrades

Released 2017 · support ended

CPU is soldered (BGA, 15 W U-series Intel 6th/7th/8th-gen Core i3/i5/i7) — no CPU upgrade path. An M.2 WWAN socket exists only on WWAN-ready SKUs. SD/SDHC/SDXC card reader present. Some SKUs include a GeForce 930MX 2 GB dGPU.

2x DDR4 SO-DIMM (260-pin), up to 32 GB 2 × DDR4 SO-DIMM · up to 32 GB total · 2400 MT/s

Non-ECC unbuffered 1.2 V SO-DIMMs. Max 2400 MT/s with 8th-gen CPUs (2133 MT/s with 7th/6th-gen); faster DDR4 clocks down. 32 GB needs 16 GB modules (update BIOS first). Buy matched pairs for dual channel; mixed speeds run at the slower one. HP warns some third-party modules fail to train.

M.2 2280 (SATA/NVMe) + 2.5" 7 mm SATA bay 2 × M.2 2280 / 2.5" (SATA / NVMe) · max 7 mm thick · up to 1.024 TB

Documented maxima: 512 GB on the M.2 slot and 1 TB on the 2.5" bay; larger NVMe drives (1-2 TB) are widely reported working. 2.5" drives must be 7 mm thick (no 9.5 mm). NVMe is not available on Celeron SKUs (SATA M.2 only). Factory configs ship 2.5" OR M.2 — confirm the SATA caddy/connector is present before adding a second drive.
