HP OMEN 30L Gaming Desktop GT13 upgrade guide
Updated Oct. 18, 2026 · Written from this device's verified specifications
This guide covers upgrading memory, storage and the processor in the HP OMEN 30L Gaming Desktop GT13 (OMEN 30L GT13-0xxx). It is a tower PC sold in two very different flavours, an AMD version with an AM4 socket and a B550 board, and an Intel version with an LGA1200 socket and a Z490 board. Before you buy anything, find the product number on the case or in the BIOS and check which version you own. The same name covers both. Good news first: the CPU is socketed and replaceable in both versions, all of the memory sits in normal user-accessible slots (nothing is soldered), and there are multiple storage bays to grow into.

Memory (RAM)
What fits
The OMEN 30L GT13 has four DDR4 DIMM slots, and every one of them is user-accessible. There is no soldered memory to work around.
The limits
Up to 128 GB in total, which means 32 GB per module at most. Memory must be standard non-registered, non-ECC consumer DDR4 - server or ECC DIMMs are not supported. HP's figures say the board supports XMP profiles up to 3200 MT/s, so treat 3200 MT/s as the ceiling.
What to watch out for
If your machine came with two modules it is probably running in dual channel. Adding two more sticks keeps that arrangement; mixing an odd number of modules can leave performance on the table. DDR4 only - DDR3 and DDR5 physically will not fit. Buying DDR4 faster than 3200 MT/s gives you no benefit here and can cost more.
Buying tips
- Aim for a matched kit from a single brand and speed.
- Standard desktop DIMMs only, not ECC and not registered.
- 3200 MT/s is the supported maximum, so no need to pay for faster rated modules.
Storage (SSD and hard drives)
What fits
There is one M.2 2280 NVMe SSD slot for the fast boot drive, plus 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA drive bays for extra SSDs or hard drives.
The limits
The M.2 slot takes a 2280-size NVMe drive. HP does not publish a per-slot capacity limit, so there is no official ceiling on how large a drive you can fit - today's largest consumer drives should work. The single M.2 slot is the constraint: if you want more than one NVMe drive you would need an add-in card solution, which is outside what these machines document.
What to watch out for
Adding drives to the SATA bays may require SATA cables or mounting brackets that are not included. Check the HP parts guide for the correct cable set for your unit before ordering cabling. Decide in advance where each drive goes: the M.2 slot is best used for the biggest, fastest NVMe drive you can afford, with the SATA bays holding bulk storage.
Buying tips
- For the M.2 slot, buy a 2280 NVMe SSD.
- For extra space, 2.5-inch SATA SSDs and 3.5-inch SATA hard drives both fit the bays.
- Order the correct SATA cables or brackets from HP's parts list rather than guessing.
Processor (CPU)
What fits
The CPU is socketed and replaceable in both versions of this PC. The catch is that the two versions use different sockets and different processors:
- AMD version: AM4 socket on a B550 board. These boards support Ryzen 3000 and Ryzen 5000 processors. Support for some Ryzen 5000 chips may require a BIOS update, so update the BIOS before you swap the CPU.
- Intel version: LGA1200 socket on a Z490 board. These boards support 10th Gen Intel Core processors.
The limits
HP does not document a TDP cap for CPU upgrades in this machine, so there is no official wattage figure to compare against. As a practical matter, stay close to the power draw of the chip your PC shipped with unless you are also prepared to improve the cooling.
What to watch out for
Confirm the product number before ordering - an LGA1200 CPU will not physically fit an AM4 board and vice versa. On the AMD side, update the BIOS to the newest version using your current processor first, then install the new chip. HP's documents describe 10th Gen Core support for the Intel version; they do not list 11th Gen support, so treat that as unconfirmed rather than promised.
Buying tips
- Identify AMD (AM4/B550) or Intel (LGA1200/Z490) from your product number first.
- On AM4, plan a BIOS update before the swap if you are moving to Ryzen 5000.
- Keep to processors with a similar power draw to the original unless you are upgrading the cooler too.
How to upgrade
Before you start
- Back up anything you care about before opening the case, especially before storage work.
- Shut the PC down fully and unplug the power cable from the wall.
- Press the power button once with the cable out to drain remaining power.
- Ground yourself - use an anti-static wrist strap or touch bare metal on the case - before handling components.
- Open the case and remove any panels you need. HP's owner's manual for the OMEN 30L GT13 shows the exact disassembly steps for your unit, so keep it to hand.
- Fit the new part firmly in its slot or bay, then close everything back up.
- Power on and enter the BIOS to confirm the machine sees the new memory, drive or processor, then boot into Windows and check it appears there too.
Steps
- A safe upgrade outline
Back up your data. Shut the PC down and unplug the power cable, then press the power button to discharge it. Ground yourself before touching any components. Open the case using HP's owner's manual for the OMEN 30L GT13 as your guide to panels and fixings. Install the RAM, SSD or CPU, then close the case, reconnect the power, and check in the BIOS (and in Windows) that the new part is detected and running at the expected settings.

Frequently asked questions
How much RAM can the HP OMEN 30L GT13 take?
Up to 128 GB across its four DDR4 DIMM slots, using 32 GB modules. The memory must be standard non-registered, non-ECC DDR4, and the supported speed tops out at 3200 MT/s with XMP profiles.
Does the OMEN 30L GT13 support ECC or registered memory?
No. It needs ordinary consumer DDR4 DIMMs. ECC and registered server memory is not supported.
Can I add a second M.2 SSD?
Not internally - this model has one M.2 2280 NVMe slot. For more storage, use the 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA bays instead, and check the HP parts guide for the SATA cables or brackets you will need.
Does the OMEN 30L GT13 support Ryzen 5000 or 11th Gen Intel?
On the AMD version, yes - AM4 boards support Ryzen 3000 and Ryzen 5000, though some Ryzen 5000 chips may need a BIOS update first. On the Intel version, HP documents 10th Gen Core support only. 11th Gen support is not documented, so treat it as unconfirmed.
How do I know if my OMEN 30L is the AMD or Intel version?
Check the product number for your exact sub-model. HP sells this PC in both AMD (AM4/B550) and Intel (LGA1200/Z490) variants under the same name, and the correct upgrade parts are completely different between them.
Is the CPU in the OMEN 30L GT13 upgradeable?
Yes. The processor is socketed rather than soldered in both versions of the machine. Just make sure any replacement chip matches your socket - AM4 for the AMD version, LGA1200 for the Intel version.
