HP OMEN 15 Gaming Laptop 15-ek0000 upgrades

Released 2020 · support ended

HP OMEN 15 (2020) 15-ek0000 (Intel) / 15-en0000 (AMD). The CPU is BGA-soldered (10th-gen Comet Lake-H on HM470, e.g. i7-10750H 45 W, or Ryzen 4000H on AMD) — no CPU upgrade possible. RAM ceiling is disputed: HP/Kingston say 32 GB, LaptopMedia says 64 GB works unvalidated. HP's manual is self-contradictory on memory configs. An SD card slot is present but is not a storage upgrade slot.

2× SO-DIMM DDR4 (260-pin) 2 × DDR4 SO-DIMM · up to 32 GB total · 3200 MT/s

Two accessible SO-DIMM slots, no soldered RAM. Official max is 32 GB (2x16 GB); LaptopMedia reports 2x32 GB (64 GB) works but is unvalidated by HP — verify return policy first. Intel (15-ek) tops out at DDR4-2933, AMD (15-en) at DDR4-3200; faster sticks downclock. No XMP in BIOS: use JEDEC CL22 (3200) or CL21 (2933) modules or you may get no-boot/BSOD. Buy in matched pairs for dual-channel; non-ECC unbuffered only.

2× M.2 2280 NVMe (PCIe Gen3 x4) 2 × M.2 2280 (NVMe)

Two M.2 2280 slots, both PCIe NVMe x4 Gen3 (M.2 SATA not supported; no 2.5" bay on this chassis). No official capacity limit; Kingston recommends single-sided drives — thick double-sided 4 TB modules may not clear the standoff. Gen4 drives work but run at Gen3 speed. RAID 0 ships as two identical drives (replacing one breaks the array); Optane models pair 512 GB SSD + 32 GB Optane on one module — upgrade the empty slot instead.
