Dell XPS 15 9570 upgrades

CPU is soldered (BGA) Intel Coffee Lake-H — i5-8300H / i7-8750H / i9-8950HK, all 45 W on CM246. No CPU socket and no upgrade path; the BIOS only supports those three chips, so there is no CPU slot. Note the i9-8950HK throttles heavily in this chassis. Memory and drives are user-serviceable per Dell's Service Manual.

DDR4-2666 260-pin SO-DIMM, non-ECC unbuffered 1.2 V. No XMP in BIOS. 3200 MT/s modules work but downclock to 2666. Two matched sticks enable dual-channel (worth it for the GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q). 2×16 GB = 32 GB is Dell's validated ceiling; 2×32 GB is widely reported but unofficial and unverified in the sources.

One M.2 2280 slot (PCIe Gen 3 x4 NVMe or M.2 SATA; Gen 4/5 drives work at Gen 3 speed) plus one 2.5" SATA Gen 3 bay. The 2.5" bay needs the SATA interposer cable and is only present on 56 Wh battery configs (removed with 97 Wh); 7 mm drives only. Only one M.2 storage slot exists (the other is WiFi). Dell documents 2 TB max per bay; Kingston lists 4 TB, unvalidated.
