Sources disagree on RAM max (64 GB/16 GB per slot vs 128 GB/32 GB) and speed (2400/2666 vs 3200 MHz - faster modules downclock to the CPU's rated speed). PSU options are 300 W/460 W/850 W; a low-wattage unit limits GPU and drive expansion.

288-pin unbuffered desktop DIMMs only - no SO-DIMM, no RDIMM/LRDIMM. ECC UDIMM works realistically only with a Xeon E CPU; Core i3/i5/i7 configs need non-ECC. Sources disagree on limits: current guide says 32 GB/slot (128 GB total), the original 8th-gen guide says 16 GB/slot (64 GB total) - older systems may need a BIOS update for 32 GB UDIMMs. Install in matched pairs for dual-channel.

1 M.2 (2242/2260/2280, PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe or SATA, Dell-stated max 2 TB) plus 3 internal bays configurable as 3x 3.5" or 4x 2.5" SATA. 2.5" drives need adapters/brackets. Dell-stated per-drive max: 8 TB 3.5" HDD (4 TB in the older guide), 2 TB 2.5" HDD, 1 TB 2.5" SSD. A 2nd M.2 needs the optional Ultra-Speed Drive interposer card (takes a PCIe slot, has a fan). Intel RST 0/1/5/10 is host-based.

Socketed LGA 1151 (300-series/C246): Coffee Lake 8th Gen and Coffee Lake Refresh 9th Gen Core i3/i5/i7/i9 plus Xeon E-2100/E-2200. 9th Gen chips in older systems typically need a BIOS update first. Top supported parts (i7-9700K, i9-9900K) are 95 W, so K-series upgrades need the larger heatsink/PSU; Xeon E-2224 has no iGPU. Only CPUs on Dell's supported list are validated.
