Dell OptiPlex 7090 Micro upgrades

Released 2022 · on sale

Micro chassis: socketed LGA1200 CPU, two socketed SO-DIMM slots (no soldered RAM), two M.2 NVMe slots plus one 2.5" SATA bay (absent on DGFX SKUs). No PCIe add-in slots, no optical drive and no SD card reader; a riser connector exists only for Dell's optional legacy serial/VGA module.

2× DDR4 SO-DIMM (260-pin), 64 GB max 2 × DDR4 SO-DIMM · up to 64 GB total · 3200 MT/s

Two socketed DDR4 SO-DIMM slots (no soldered RAM). Non-ECC unbuffered only; Q570 supports neither ECC nor RDIMM. Speed is CPU-gated: 2666 (10th-gen i5), 2933 (10th-gen i7/i9), 3200 (11th-gen) — faster modules just downclock. Install matched pairs for dual channel.

2× M.2 M-key NVMe SSD (2230/2280) 2 × SSD M.2 2230 / M.2 2280 (NVMe) · up to 2.048 TB

Guidebook says both slots take 2230/2280; Dell's retail page says one 2230/2280 + one 2280, so check the second standoff before buying a 2230 drive. Gen3 x4 with 10th-gen CPUs; Gen4 x4 only with 11th-gen. 2 TB is the largest drive Dell offered (Class 40 2280), not a hard limit. Optane H10 supported.

1× 2.5" SATA 3.0 bay (HDD/SSD) HDD / SSD 2.5" (SATA) · max 9 mm thick

Standard SATA 3.0 (6 Gb/s) bay; drives of 7–9 mm fit (sources do not confirm 9.5 mm). DGFX (discrete-graphics) SKUs have NO SATA bay — buy the integrated-graphics model for a 2.5" drive. Dell's catalogue maxes (2 TB HDD, 500 GB SSD) reflect what Dell sold, not a technical limit.

1× LGA1200 socket (10th/11th-gen Intel) LGA1200 · Core 10th gen, Core 11th gen · max 65 W

Q570 board with a removable LGA1200 CPU: 10th-gen Comet Lake (i3/i5/i7/i9, Celeron/Pentium) and 11th-gen Rocket Lake (i5/i7/i9) supported; 11th gen is the ceiling — no 12th/13th gen. 65 W SKUs are listed but the Micro chassis is designed for 35 W T-series; BIOS/MT (e.g. 11JN vs 0A36) affects the supported CPU list, so check the service tag before buying.
