Dell OptiPlex 7010 Mini Tower upgrades
Released 2012 · on sale
Dell OptiPlex 7010 Mini Tower (2012, Ivy Bridge / LGA1155, Q77). Do not confuse with the 2023 OptiPlex 7010/7010 Plus (13th-Gen, DDR5) — completely different hardware. The MT here has 4 DIMM slots / 32 GB max; the SFF is the same but the USFF has only 2 slots / 16 GB. MT ships with ~240 W Dell PSU (24-pin + 4-pin CPU): plan a PSU swap for mid/high-end GPUs or more than 2 drives. Expansion: 1× PCIe x16, 1× PCIe x1, 2× legacy PCI (verify against your service manual/service tag). Update to the latest BIOS before installing large drives or newer SSDs.

4× DDR3 DIMM (240-pin), 32 GB max 4 × DDR3 DIMM · up to 32 GB total · 1600 MT/s
Desktop 240-pin DDR3 non-ECC UDIMM only — do not buy DDR4/DDR5 (2023 OptiPlex 7010 uses DDR5) or ECC/registered RAM. 8 GB sticks must be 8-Gbit dual-rank x8 density or they may show 4 GB or fail to POST. Populate in matched pairs (A1+B1, A2+B2). With a Sandy Bridge CPU installed, max speed is 1333 MT/s.

2× 3.5" SATA bays (+ 5.25" bay) 2 × SSD / HDD 2.5" / 3.5" (SATA)
Two 3.5" bays take standard 1.0-inch (25.4 mm) SATA drives; 2.5" SSDs/HDDs need a 2.5→3.5 bracket/caddy. 4 SATA ports (2× 6 Gb/s, 2× 3 Gb/s) — use the 6 Gb/s ones for the SSD. The 5.25" optical bay can hold an extra drive via a bay adapter. No M.2/mSATA and no NVMe boot. Dell shipped up to 2 TB HDDs; larger drives work as data disks, >2.2 TB boot needs UEFI+GPT.

LGA1155 CPU socket (Q77), 77 W max LGA1151 (6th/7th gen) · Core 11th gen, Core 12th gen · max 77 W
Socket is LGA1155 (Socket H2), socketed and replaceable. Official support: 3rd-Gen Ivy Bridge Core i3/i5/i7, Pentium, Celeron; 2nd-Gen Sandy Bridge also works (Dell shipped these). 65 W 'T' SKUs supported. 95 W 'K' chips (i7-3770K etc.) and Xeon E3-12xx v2 are not validated by Dell, though the E3-1230 v2 is widely reported to work (no iGPU output, 69 W).
