Dell OptiPlex 5060 Small Form Factor upgrades
Released 2018 · on sale
OptiPlex 5060 SFF only: the Micro variant has 2 DIMM slots and no 3.5"/ODD bays; the Tower adds full-height slots. SFF expansion is half-height (1x PCIe 3.0 x16 + 1x PCIe 3.0 x4) and the 200 W (85%) PSU limits discrete GPU choices. Confirm the chassis before buying parts.

4x DDR4 UDIMM 288-pin, non-ECC, unbuffered 4 × DDR4 DIMM · up to 64 GB total · 2666 MT/s
All memory is socketed (no soldered RAM); max 64 GB = 4x16 GB DDR4 UDIMM. Speed depends on CPU: 2666 MT/s with Core i5/i7, 2400 MT/s with Celeron/Pentium/i3. ECC and registered DIMMs are not supported. A legacy 32 GB / 2133 MHz fact sheet circulating online is for an older OptiPlex and is wrong for this model.

1x M.2 2230/2280 (SATA/NVMe) + 3.5"/2.5" bay 2 × SSD / HDD M.2 2230 / M.2 2280 / 2.5" / 3.5" (NVMe / SATA)
One M.2 slot takes SATA or PCIe NVMe 2230/2280 (move the metal standoff for 2230); NVMe runs at PCIe 3.0 x4. The 3.5" bay holds one 3.5" drive or two 2.5" drives with Dell's 2.5"-to-3.5" adapter bracket (not included). 2.5" thickness limit unpublished (bay fits 7/9.5 mm). 3 SATA ports (2x 6 Gb/s + 1x 3 Gb/s shared with the slim ODD); the slim optical bay can host a drive via a caddy. Only factory config ceilings (2 TB HDD, 1 TB M.2) are documented; larger drives reportedly work.

LGA 1151 (Coffee Lake 8th Gen, Q370) LGA1151 (8th/9th gen) · Core 8th gen · max 65 W
Socketed, user-replaceable CPU, but the Q370 BIOS supports only 8th Gen Coffee Lake (Pentium Gold G5400/G5500, i3-8100/8300, i5-8400/8500/8600, i7-8700 and their 35 W T-series). 9th Gen and 6th/7th Gen chips are NOT accepted despite the LGA 1151 socket. Max TDP 65 W (i7-8700); 200 W PSU constrains other upgrades.
