Dell Latitude 5590 upgrades
Released 2018 · end of sale
The CPU is soldered (BGA, 8th-gen Intel Core U-series Kaby Lake-R / Whiskey Lake era), so there is no CPU socket and no processor upgrade path. RAM and storage are the only upgradeable slots. Verified against Dell's Latitude 5590 owner's manual, but note that some sources do not confirm support for 2230-length SSDs, so treat the M.2 slot as 2280-only unless you can test a 2230 drive with the proper standoff.

2x DDR4 SO-DIMM, up to 32 GB 2 × DDR4 SO-DIMM · up to 32 GB total · 2400 MT/s
Two user-accessible SO-DIMM slots, nothing soldered. Dell's documented maximum is 32 GB (2x16 GB) of DDR4-2400 non-ECC unbuffered memory; 2666 MT/s modules will run at 2400 MT/s. Matched pairs recommended for dual channel, but any DDR4 SO-DIMM fits physically.

M.2 2280 slot + 2.5-inch 7 mm bay SSD / HDD M.2 2280 / 2.5" (NVMe / SATA) · max 7 mm thick
One M.2 2280 slot accepting SATA or PCIe NVMe drives (PCIe Gen3; no minimum generation documented) plus one 2.5-inch SATA bay limited to 7 mm drives, which needs the mounting bracket/caddy and SATA cable if the laptop shipped with only an M.2 SSD. A separate M.2 3042/2242 WWAN slot exists but is for modems, not storage. SD card reader on the front edge. No documented drive capacity limit.
