Dell Latitude 5500 upgrades

Released 2019 · on sale

CPU is soldered (BGA, 15 W Whiskey Lake-U: i3-8145U, i5-8265U/8365U, i7-8665U) — no CPU socket, not upgradeable. Some regional builds may ship 10th-Gen Comet Lake-U CPUs (same memory/storage layout, RAM runs at full 2666 MHz); verify the exact CPU via the service tag. Do not confuse with Latitude 5501/5510/5520, which are different machines.

Dual-channel DDR4-2666 (260-pin, 1.2 V, non-ECC unbuffered). With 8th-Gen Whiskey Lake CPUs the RAM actually runs at 2400 MHz; faster SO-DIMMs clock down. Buy 2× 16 GB for dual channel.

Single drive position only: an M.2 SSD and a 2.5" drive cannot be installed together. M.2 2280 is NVMe Gen3 x4 (also SATA/SED options); the 2230 slot is Gen3 x2. 1 TB is Dell's validated ceiling — larger aftermarket M.2 drives generally work. If the unit has a 2.5" HDD, converting to M.2 needs Dell mounting hardware.
